Great Central Railway (Nottingham)
Limited
This section of the
former GCR Main Line, north of Loughborough, is part of the project being
undertaken from the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre, Ruddington. The track
is in-situ from the Midland main line at Loughborough to Fifty Steps Footbridge
(close to the former Ruddington station site) and so far 2.77 miles of track
north of Rushcliffe Halt has been purchased and has been passed for passenger
train use. The remaining track, at Rushcliffe Halt and to the south, is still
retained in use by Rail Track but long negotiations are reaching their final
phases for the purchase of this section. EWS Railways run trains into the East
Leake British Gypsum Works on a regular basis and this traffic will continue
even after the ownership transfers to the GCR (N) Ltd. The eventual aim is to
run passenger trains along this section and link up with the Great Central Railway
at Loughborough via a new bridge over the midland main line at Loughborough.
