The NTHC is the base for the railway's operations. There is a cafeteria (selling hot and cold food, drinks, etc), Toilets, Baby Change facilities, a shop for souvenirs, the narrow-gauge line operated by the Nottingham Society of Model and Experimental Engineers (NSMEE) and a collection of historic buses. The station platforms are located alongside the Rushcliffe Country Park in Mere Way, Ruddington. Car parking is plentiful. At Christmas the Santa Specials attract hundreds of families from all over the county and beyond.

The NTHC boasts over nine miles of track from Ruddington to Loughborough on the old Great Central Railway line. Trains  run to Rushcliffe Halt, and  on some occasions to Loughborough, offering an18 mile round trip.
